NICOLETA CORNEA

THE MAGIC OF POLYMER CLAY

My first encounter with polymer clay was around 1997, when I made a few simple canes and beads while showing my kids how to use it to make Pokemon figurines. Then, I forgot all about it...

In September 2009, while learning how to make my own jewelry, I rediscovered the canes and beads of the first adventure and I realized that I could make my own beads, too! The bracelet seen here in the background is one of my first essays in polymer clay jewelry. This second encounter with polymer clay transformed my life entirely: I became a child myself, spending every free moment that I could find playing with this new toy and learning everything I could find about it. Maggie Maggio and Lindly Haunani’s book "Polymer Clay Color Inspirations" introduced me to inspiring works by famous artists like Donna Kato, Kathleen Dustin, Dan Cormier, Jeffrey Lloyd Dever, Sarah Shriver, Laura Tabakman, and many other magicians of the polymer clay world. Little by little, I learned the basic techniques, and then more advanced ones.

JOINING THE POLYMER CLAY GUILD OF MINNESOTA (PCGMN)

In April 2010, I joined the Polymer Clay Guild of Minnesota, a turning point in my life. The guild received me very warmly and encouragingly. I started to learn even more and even faster, excited to journey deeper into the universe of polymer clay creations, with its infinite variations of colors, shapes, personal interpretations and results of the myriad of techniques and design ideas.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES

So many years later, I still enjoy tremendously working with this very versatile medium, still learning and experimenting with new techniques and designs, still a child playing with her favority toy.

MY FAVORITE POLYMER CLAY PLAYMATE

Cornelia, or Lica for short, is my sister. She lives in Romania with her husband and their two children. In 2010, I started sharing with Lica my knowledge and passion for polymer clay. Ever since, she has enjoyed working with this medium as much as I have, creating polymer clay jewelry and sculptures. Lica's Gallery showcases several of her beautiful creations.
